Top 3 – Tips for CVs

I receive messages every day from Brazilians eager for guidance on how to find an opportunity outside of Brazil. The questions are varied, but many revolve around how to prepare a competitive resume, find a job, and do well in interviews. “How do I get a job in the Netherlands?” is one of the most common questions. Although the hiring process varies from country to country, there are fundamental principles that can increase your chances of success anywhere.

After analyzing several situations, I have gathered the 3 most important tips that, in my experience, make all the difference:

  1. Customize each resume for the desired position. You might be thinking, “But Brunette, my experiences are the same for all positions, how can I adapt my resume?” The key is to understand that each position has its own particularities, and the job description is your map for building a targeted resume. Focus on highlighting the experiences and skills that most align with what the company is looking for. If you have a history of volunteer work, for example, include it emphatically if it is relevant to the position. Every detail counts when it comes to showing that you are the right person for the job.
  2. Include a professional summary that captivates the recruiter. Whether your resume is long or short, a summary of your qualifications is essential. Think of this summary as your opportunity to tell, in a few lines, who you are, what motivates you and what your main skills are. This introductory text should give the recruiter a clear and quick overview of your profile, sparking interest in continuing to read. Remember: this is the moment to stand out, to show what makes you unique among so many candidates.
  3. Write a cover letter that connects with the company. A cover letter is more than a formality; it’s your chance to show that you’ve done your homework and that you’re genuinely interested in the company and the position in question. Answer questions like, “Why do I want to work for this particular company? What makes it special? How do my experience and values align with its mission?” Research the company in depth, understand its culture, and show how you can contribute to its success. Also, be honest about what you’ve already mastered and what you’re still willing to learn. This demonstrates both confidence and humility, two qualities that are highly valued in the job market.

By following these tips, you’ll be better prepared to stand out in the competitive international market. And of course, I’ll continue to share more insights and guidance to help you on this journey.

Good luck with your next application! May it be the first step towards your professional success abroad.
