Impact of Discrimination on Expatriates in the Netherlands
Finding a job in the Netherlands can be difficult for expats, largely due to discrimination. One survey found that nearly half of international residents have faced racism or discrimination, regardless of their length of residence or language proficiency. Key obstacles include language barriers, social exclusion and workplace challenges, such as a preference for Dutch candidates. To overcome these challenges, expats should improve their Dutch, highlight their international experience and seek out support networks. Employers, on the other hand, need to promote diversity and inclusion, creating a more welcoming and fair environment.
